Transport of cargo in 2011
Last year the Polsteam vessels transported a total of 19.7 million tonnes of cargo. It was about 1.2 million fewer than in 2010. However, the efficiency of the tonnage in both years were similar, because the reduced amount of cargo is primarily an effect of longer voyages. There were more transatlantic voyages and less trips beetwen ports in Europe (in comparison with 2010).
The structure of transported cargo was as follows : grains - 5.3 million tonnes (in 2010 - 4.6 million tonnes) transported mainly from the ports of South and North America to Europe, fertilizers - 2 million tons (in 2010 - 1.8 million tonnes), coal and coke - in 2010 to 1.8 million tonnes (2.5 million tonnes), phosphates - 1.0 million tons (1.1 million tonnes), iron ore - 389 thousand tonnes (840 thousand tonnes), steel products - 379 thousand tonnes (413 thousand tonnes), liquid sulfur - 246 thousand tonnes (317 thousand tonnes), sulfur dry - 62 thousand tonnes (209 thousand tonnes), other - 725 thousand tonnes (874 thousand tonnes).
